Chan master Shengyen

Dharma Drum Lineage

We practise in the Dharma Drum lineage of the late Chan Master Sheng Yen (Shengyen).

Our Founding Teacher, Dr John Crook Chuandeng Jingdi

Dr John Crook Chuandeng Jingdi was our Founding Teacher. He received Dharma Transmission in 1993 from Chan Master Sheng Yen in both Caodong (Jap: Soto) and Linji (Jap: Rinzai) lineages.

Our Current Guiding Teacher, Dr Simon Child Jinghong Chuanfa

Dr Simon Child Jinghong Chuanfa is our current Guiding Teacher. He received Dharma Transmission from Chan Master Sheng Yen in in 2000 in both Caodong (Jap: Soto) and Linji (Jap: Rinzai) lineages.

Simon Child has given Dharma Transmission twice:

  • to Fiona Nuttall in 2015, also conferring the lineages of both Caodong (Jap: Soto) and Linji (Jap: Rinzai).
  • to Rebecca Li in 2016, also conferring the lineages of both Caodong (Jap: Soto) and Linji (Jap: Rinzai).
