# Western Chan Fellowship

> Western Chan Fellowship CIO (WCF) is a Chan Buddhist charity offering Zen retreats, meditation groups, writing and publications, primarily in the UK.
> Chan is the Chinese ancestor of Zen Buddhism. The Western Chan Fellowship is an association of lay Chan practitioners, a lay Sangha.
> The Western Chan Fellowship guiding Teacher Simon Child, Jinghong Chuanfa, is a Dharma heir of Chan Master Shengyen in the Dharma Drum Chan lineage.

Western Chan Fellowship lead a range of different types of Buddhist meditation retreats at centres in England and Wales. Some of WCF Zen meditation retreats follow the traditional methods of practice. Others such as the 'Western Zen Retreat' include adaptations to match the needs of Westerners. Most of WCF Zen retreats are silent retreats.
