Three local spiritual groups met up on Sunday 1 July for a stroll in the countryside collecting litter. Eleven adults, one child and a puppy from two local Buddhist groups – Newbury Chan Group and the Fifth Precept Group and Newbury Quakers met up for an afternoon walk around Speen Moor with litter pickers and sacks.
Walk organiser and leader of Newbury Chan Group Susan Millington said: "As part of our contribution to Buddhist Action Day, we decided it would be lovely to combine a social afternoon with a bit of cleaning up one of our local beauty spots. It was great to chat with like-minded people about spiritual matters. We tidied up the footpaths, and at the same time enjoyed exploring the similarities between Quaker and Buddhist ideas and practices. I think some new friendships were forged, and we all agreed that we should do it again."
The walk ended with refreshments and more conversation in the garden at the Friends’ Meeting House.
