Leusdon Memorial Hall

Leudon Memorial Hall photo

Venue details

A stunning, remote location, Leusdon Memorial Hall near Poundsgate in Dartmoor.

Leusdon Memorial Hall
Poundsgate
Newton Abbot
Q13 7PE

Directions to Leusdon Memorial Hall

Type OS grid “SX7068773045” into www.streetmap.co.uk and it’s the little building arrowed

Approaching from East or West

From East – Exeter on A38

Exit Peartree from A38 to Ashburton and Dartmoor/Two Bridges/Princetown - B3352, which actually goes into Ashburton!

N.B Not the first exit to Ashburton from this direction

From West – Plymouth on A38

Exit Peartree from A38 to Ashburton and Dartmoor/Two Bridges/Princetown – B3352, which actually goes into Ashburton!

Then from both directions

At the Shell garage, follow B3357 towards Princetown for about 4 miles which comprises :-

  • crossing the River Dart twice at Holne Bridge (a bit narrow) and, after up, over and down a ridge, New Bridge (very narrow and a big car park on left just after it)
  • Continue on round sharp left hand uphill bend, up the steep hill and through narrow bit – Poundsgate; Tavistock Inn on your left
  • Then down a small dip and up the other side steeply – more sharp uphill turns, this time first right, then left
  • After the 2 bends, 150m up the hill, as you crest the brow, take sharp right turn onto open common signposted to Leusdon and Ponsworthy (If you get to the small old Methodist chapel on your left you have gone just too far; turn round and go back to the junction signposted to Leusdon and Ponsworthy)

Then, after about 300m across the common, Leusdon Memorial Hall is the first (and only) building set above the road on the left on the common.

Parking

Parking is on the hardcore roadside verge opposite the Hall.

From the North. i.e. Okehampton, Tavistock, Princetown

Proceed towards Ashburton to Two Bridges and then just beyond Two Bridges up the hill, at the fork go straight on on the B3357 to Dartmeet and Ashburton.

Continue for 4.5 miles to Dartmeet and its narrow bridge. Then straight on up the long steep hill on to the moorland plateau, through a short 300m stretch of walled road and back onto the moorland plateau.

A further 300m brings you to a carpark on the right.

Pass it and enter another stretch of walled road which drops down and then bears right into a wiggly narrow bit – ½ a mile in total.

As the road enters along the edge of another small moorland common and opposite the very small Leusdon Methodist Chapel on your right, take the narrow left fork.

This brings you onto Leusdon Common proper where in 200m you join another road from the right and a further 150m on, Leusdon Memorial Hall is the first (and only) building set above the road on the left on the common.

From Dartmeet, this is 2.7 miles in total.

Parking

Parking is on the hardcore roadside verge opposite the Hall.
